Energy/UNITE Summer Academy

The UNM Engineering Student Success Center (ESS) with the support of the U.S. Army Education Outreach Program (AEOP) is sponsoring the Energy/UNITE Summer Academy Program for high school students. The summer program will take place at the University of New Mexico main campus in Albuquerque and is free of charge to participants.  The program is designed to encourage students with an interest in STEM related topics prepare to pursue college-level studies and careers in engineering and STEM related career fields.


PROGRAM DATES:  
June 11-July 6, 2018 (UNITE) / June 11-29, 2018 (Energy Academy)


Program activities include:

  • Projects that promote hands-on learning, critical thinking and team building
  • Guest speakers who will talk about their work and opportunities in their field
  • Courses that will enhance participant knowledge in mathematics, science and computer skills
  • Stipend for successful completion of the programs

 The selection criteria for the Energy/UNITE program include:

1) Students must be enrolled in a recognized secondary school
2) Students must be classified as a freshman, sophomore or junior (during the Fall of 2018 school semester)
3) Students must be U.S. citizens or permanent resident
4) Students in the UNITE Program are expected to return to the program next year

 Applications must include:

1) A personal statement (400-500) words explaining why the student wants to participate in the Energy/UNITE program
2) Completed and signed APPLICATION FORM

Summer Transportation Institute (STI)

The STI Program, sponsored by the Federal Highway Administration, the NM Department of Transportation and the UNM School of Engneering is a three week residential program designed to prepare students for college living and academic study in STEM related career fields within the transportation industry.  Activities will expose participants to all modes of transportation:  air, land, and water and will include topics on city planning and transportation safety.

PROGRAM DATES:  July 9-20, 2018

Program activities include:

  • Projects that promote hands-on learning, critical thinking and team building
  • Guest speakers who will talk about their work and opportunities in the transportation related field
  • Courses that will enhance participant knowledge in mathematics, science and computer skills - relating to the transportation industry
  • Free room & board at the UNM dormitories

 The selection criteria for the Energy/UNITE program include:

1) Students must be enrolled in a recognized secondary school
2) Students must be classified as a freshman, sophomore or junior (during the Fall of 2018 school semester)
4) Students must reside in the dormitories for the duration of the program.

 Applications must include:

1) A personal statement (400-500) words explaining why the student wants to participate in the Energy/UNITE program
2) Completed and signed APPLICATION FORM

CNM Summer Camp

Upon registration, you will be charged a $20 fee to hold your student's spot. This registration fee will be refunded to you upon your student's attendance at their session. Deadline to register for a workshop is July 16, 2018.

CNM Summer Camp offers elementary, middle & high school students (grades 4-12) a unique learning experience on a college campus and introduces them to potential educational and career pathways in a fun and interactive environment. 

CNM Summer Camp aims to introduce science, technology, engineering, mathematics and career and technical education to students. The goal is to familiarize students with CTE and STEM majors while fueling their creativity and wonder.

All students will participate in scheduled learning modules led by CNM faculty.

This summer's event features the following:

  • Explore College and Career options
  • Test drive labs and classrooms
  • Engage in interactive, hands-on activities related to college and career fields
  • Network with CNM faculty, students, alumni, and local employers
  • Meet the CNM mascot, Sol the Suncat

UNM Health Careers Academy

The summer before your sophomore, junior or senior year in high school, participate in the Health Careers Academy and enjoy a challenging, non-residential academic program. During the six-week program, you’ll:

  • Build math, science, language, and critical thinking skills.
  • Explore health science careers.
  • Participate in service learning opportunities.
  • Prepare to take the ACT.

UNM Dream Makers Health Careers Programs

For students who are in middle or high school, the Dream Makers Health Careers Program provides opportunities to gain exposure to health professions while building science, math, and leadership skills.

UNM Undergraduate Health Sciences Enrichment Program

The summer before you enter college as a freshman, take advantage of the Undergraduate Health Sciences Enrichment Program, a six-week, academically rigorous residential program that can help you explore a future career as a health professional and prepare you for college life.

UNM Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, Math & Health (STEAM-H)

Students who are in third through 12th grade are eligible for STEAM-H. Develop your talents and build skills in science, technology, engineering, arts, math and health. Enjoy this summer program that offers hands-on activities, field trips and exciting summer adventures.

If you’re in middle school or high school, you have the opportunity to compete in a number of STEM-Hacademic challenges, one of which is our state’s largest science event called the Central NM Science & Engineering Research Challenge.

The Teen Academy allows high school students (rising 11th and 12th graders for the 2018-2019 school year)
an opportunity to get a comprehensive look into today’s FBI during a three day six-to-eight-hour block
of instruction and demonstrations at the Albuquerque Field Office. Students are provided with
several presentations on topics, including terrorism, cyber security, public corruption, evidence response,
SWAT, and the day-to-day operations in a typical FBI office. Due to the vast diversity in our workforce,
any student is encouraged to apply.

Unfortunately due limited space, the program has a limit of 
30 participants.
FBI – Albuquerque Division’s Teen Academy will take place 6/25-6/29 from 9:00am- 4:30pm. 
Attendance is mandatory for ALL scheduled sessions/ times. Punctuality, professional behavior,
and appropriate dress will be required of all students participating in the program.
